As a freelance book editor, my clients are major publishing houses in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. My responsibilities include everything from development and copyediting to project management. I care about grammar, spelling, and punctuation more than anyone should, but I’m also highly skilled at developing a book’s table of contents and individual chapters so that information is presented to readers in a way that makes sense.
When project management is part of the job, I manage book projects from beginning to end, picking up a book after the author has been contracted and seeing it through to publication. I help authors write to the publishers’ standards and meet their contracted deadlines to ensure that books are published according to plan. Typically, I juggle a dozen book projects at a time, in various stages of the editorial process.
I have years of experience adhering to publishers’ house style guides and series guidelines and am well versed in The Chicago Manual of Style, as well as AP and MLA. I can quickly learn and adapt to other style guides as necessary.
I earned a master’s degree in writing from the University of Southern California in 2004, a master’s degree in English from Butler University in 1997, and a bachelor’s degree in education (with a major in English and a minor in history) from Indiana University in 1995. I’m still paying off my student loans.
